Our most rugged asphalt thermometer is the model 38653 (warranted for five years). It must be combined with a model 50360 Oven safe Probe or a 50143 or 49135 Heavy Duty Probe. You can choose from several sensor tip lengths with the model 50143 probe.
If you want a non-contact instant read thermometer, take a look at the IRTN40-20-WR or the IRTN408. While they will give you surface temperature readings without a probe, they will also accept the model 50360, 50143 and 49135 Heavy Duty Probes in case you want to use them for internal asphalt temperature readings too. Be sure to order these probes as "Type K" for use with this meter. Note that we don't recommend the economy probes listed as standard options for the IRTN40-20-WR since they're designed for lighter duty applications and won't hold up well when used to measure asphalt temperatures.
The QC450 is another rugged digital thermometer that's a less expensive choice though the sensor shaft length is rather limited.
The last (and least expensive) choice, the model 3720-07 has a 15" shaft length. The glass lens makes it a more fragile choice.
